Silly song that few, alive today, have ever heard. I do this song as an example of music other than the familiar big band, and wonderful Broadway show music that was being written and played at the time. 1930 was the first full year of "the Great Depression" so many Americans needed a lot of levity and anything to smile about to help them through the day. I make an attempt at scat singing. This was a staple with all Sugar Babies renditions. I don't do it well (hear Louis or Ella) but... 'Taint 1930 and 'taint the radio. I have a CDof 24 songs by Fred Hall and His Sugar Babies. It was produced by The Old Maters of San Mateo, CA.

  • Thanks Ed. I never ehard the Gwoge Olsen renditon. My dad also played with him. George was a leader not a player. Fro many years had the yellow band jackdt with artificial, birhgt blue boutaineer in the lapel. Thaks for comenting and thank for the 78. Ed

  • Nice original rendition.

  • Thanks for the comment on this rarely heard and less rarely played song. Also, thanks so much ofr the sub. Ed

  • Fantastic! I'd always wondered who wrote this song... there's an excellent version of it by Lee Morse.

  • Thanks very much. You are a real afficianado if youhave heard this song by anyone. My version isn't that great, by Arthur Fields' standards, but...I go tit out there. Appreciate the comment. Ed

  • Never heard this one before--thanks again.

  • No...and you will never hear it again. It's going back in my father's trunk. I did it for educational purposes for some of my, much appreciated (by me) young fans who sense some historic aspect to the songs we play. I have a lot more of those ditties but...I think I will revet to the standards when I can find another one that I can masserate. Thanks for the comment, Michael

  • Hi Ed! Love your song here! Excited to tell you that Fred Halls HOT record of this has just been uploaded by my friend seerider45. I did some audio restoration on it for him. Its one amazing jazz novelty song alright! And on a rare and stunning French label! Glad to know another great Fred "Sugar" Hall classic has arrived on youtube! enjoy it! It's a brilliant video! and sounds better than my "Piccolo Pete!" lol Maybe your dad is on it! HAPPY DAYS! Biff

  • @brcmano just google jim bottorff. he's got a site with a ton of lead sheets (including this one) for these kinds of songs.

  • An lady going by Spider Saloff recorded a rendition of this in the 90's. It's where I heard it. Looking forward to creating my own rendition once I get the original piano down.

  • Love the 78.

    Love this uke take!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Hello! Could I ask you a favor? Do you have the sheet music for this song? I'm trying to find it, but I can't, and I want so much to sing it, could you tell me where I can find anything?
