No. He had no middle name as such. His Birthname was J R Cash. Just the initials. Apparently, at the time and place, it wasn't so uncommon. When he joined the army, they didn't accept initials as a name, so he had to come up with a meaning for the "J". And he picked John.

No i don't place 100% of faith in a single book. Sorry if I didn't make that clear, I was simply suggesting you start with one. I wouldn't want you to overwork yourself. Every historian is influenced by individual biases.  However, if they've done they're job, their work is thoroughly researched and backed by primary sources. That's the one thing that separates historians from conspiracy theorists such as yourself.
