Hi MapleTKD, you may not realize that some events have race courses shorter than 500m. The Vancouver Alcan festival (largest in North America) has full 500m, and their 2008 junior champion finished with 2:09. The Mixed division teams ranged from under 2 minutes to over 3 minutes, reflecting on how this wonderful sport is open to just about everyone.
Besides, you don't think adrenaline goes away the second you cross the finish line, do you? :-)
