The movements and spirit of Shaolin Kungfu are characterized by five animals, namely the Dragon, the Snake, the Tiger, the Leopard and the Crane. The Dragon trains shen which means the mind, the Snake trains qi which means energy, the Tiger trains gu which means internal force, the Leopard trains li which means strength and speed, and the Crane trains jing which means elegance and essence. This video clip captures an impromptu demonstration of the Shaolin Five-Animal Set by Sifu Wong in response to popular requests by participants of a VIP Taijiquan class in September 2005.

  • One of the few REAL and TRUE shaolin video left in the world. An honour to watch this great vid, now every shaolin vid i see is bullshit fucking acrobatics shit and fake stuntmen "monks".

  • I practiced this from the book. I never got it down, but more I started to develop a likeness to certain things that stuck to my memmory and I liked them alot. So I developed a form for each animal and then kept learning into a few more. After I reached 8 forms, I wrote them into some papper sheets and practiced them until they are comfertable. Though It would have been impossible without the book, Xie Xie Ni

  • @MechPhantom so true =(

  • I think this is Sifu Wong Kiew Kit known for his deadly techniques. If I'm not mistaken the form he is performing in the footage is his own composition.

BTW Thanks to Sifu Wong Kiew Kit for sharing the his traditional Shaolin Dragon-Tiger Set to the world. Not only the forms but the application and meanings of each form. Really practical in actual self-defense. (In my experience I'm too reluctant to apply because its extremely damaging to the opponent. But I'm sure it could be useful.)

  • Their are about 18 dragon forms .. and this is one of them !

  • only on kung fu , i believe in Chinese performance,

because i just take the the originality from its real source.

  • Good form, looks more like tiger crane, not shaolin five animal.

  • It's all in the kiai. You don't want to get hit by this man.

  • aslong as u have a video as a referance and examples of the aplication of the techniques in the form u CAN learn forms from a book(aslong as u practicaly practice the aplications of the forms techniques with a sparring partner). so u can learn a form from a book as long as u have a selection of good videos as a referance and well written descriptions of the movements and there use.

  • Learning forms from a book isn't the greatest idea : /
