Michael Phelps - 100m Butterfly final - Beijing 2008

Michael Phelps won the event after coming from behind Serbia's Milorad Cavic, to beat him by one one-hundredth of a second. Australian Andrew Lauterstein won the bronze medal, finishing one one-hundredth of a second ahead of American world record holder Ian Crocker.

Cavic touched first. Omega has analyzed everything and released a statement saying so. Phelps pushed hard enough to stop the clock first because Cavic lifted his head at the end, slowing him down and causing him to exert too little force to stop the clock as he touched. So, in conclusion, Phelps did not win this race, Cavic lost it. Is Phelps still the best swimmer in history? Sure, but he wouldn't have completed his record setting run in Beijing if not for someone elses mistake.
