well done my dad almost lost his whole arm on a table saw but 300 stiches and 4 hours of surgery saved his arm that is 100% as it was before could have been his arm or his life he lost.
SawStop will even replace the mechanism for free if you send it back to them and they determine that it was triggered by a body part. I guess it has some way of recording the signal that triggered it
so the blade will just cut through the callous until it hits flesh... the idea is to prevent amputation, not a small cut. I'm sure if you hit the blade fast enough you'd get a pretty nasty cut, but it's better than losing a finger
but the mistakes made by humans represented on machine are very different than human mistakes. Since the mistake of 'humans' is that we never do the same thing twice the same way. (why double check work if you did?) the mistake on machines is thus algorithmic and is likely less of a concern. That said having it doesn't seem like it would be too costly as a fail safe.
@mustiej70 Even still, when you are dealing between a whole finger and one cut in half, you'd rather have a single act fail safe than no fail safe at all.

a great invention !!
Humans can make mistakes.
So does machines.
Don't trust it to much.
