In light of a recent comment left by a viewer on May 3, 2009, viewers should be aware that there is a lot of erroneous information about Keith's bio, most notably the bio on CMT.com, which is chock full of glaring errors. Keith's given name at birth was JACKIE Keith Whitley, not Jesse Keith Whitley. Jesse Keith Whitley is the biological son of Jackie Keith Whitley and Loretta Lynn "Lorrie" Morgan, born in 1987. Jackie Keith Whitley was born in Kings Daughters Hospital in Ashland, KY on July 1, 1954, the son of the late Elmer Jackson Whitley and Nannie Faye Ferguson Whitley. Back when Keith was lead singer for J. D. Crowe and the New South in the late 1970's and early 1980's, he found he had lost his birth certificate, and he needed one for his passport. So when he received his new one from Frankfort, it came back with the wrong birth date, July 1, 1955. All this information was given to me by his mother during a phone conversation I had with her in 1991. I'm sure Lorrie knew his real birthdate, but why she insisted on putting the wrong one on his tombstone no one seems to know. If you need more proof, I have a digital copy of his original birth announcement provided to me by the Whitley family with his birth date, place of birth, and birth weight. If you need a copy of this, send me a message.

This Paul Overstreet/Don Schlitz-penned gem was Keith's 2nd straight #1 song and the second single from his 1988 album "Don't Close Your Eyes." Keith's original stayed at #1 in the US for 2 weeks at the end of 1988. Allison Krauss covered the song in 1995. While Krauss' version was on the charts, Mike Cromwell, then the production director at WMIL-FM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, concocted a duet merging elements of Krauss' version with Whitley's original hit version. The "duet" garnered national attention, and it spread from at least Philadelphia to Albuquerque. It was never officially serviced to radio and has never been available commercially. Krauss' recording won the 1995 CMA award for "Single of the Year". Then in 2004 Keith's version was #12 on the list of CMT's 100 Greatest Love Songs of All Time.

  • @animegirlluver05 Alison Krauss is 8 months younger than me. She would have been only 17 when Keith passed away. Keith was married twice, never to Alison.

  • this was a studio production about 17 yrs ago....I was introduced to this song on the LA based radio show AFTER MIDNIGHT with blair garner ...he first played this song by allison krause, then after a they came up with a studio mix pairing allison with keith, the original performer....an excellant pairing of 2 greats

  • Thank you for this pairing of two country greats, I think both of there voices are amazing. Most people dont even know that Keith Whitley is the original singer of this song, so sad to lose such an artist to alcohol.

  • @animegirlluver05 nope i believe keith was dead when they mashed up this version of the song

  • @animegirlluver05 no, they were never married. He was married to Lorrie Morgan.

  • My wife and I renewed our vows to each other with this version. Thank you MAMsMom97. I took the time to learn Keith's part so I could sing it to my wife during our vows. Thank you again for postings this. Keith and his family our always in our prayers.

  • Plus one thumbs up!!!

  • @animegirlluver05 Never.

  • Confusion? : Wiki: Jackie Keith Whitley (July 1, 1954 — May 9, 1989), known as Keith Whitley, an American country music singer. Whitley's career lasted from 1984 until his death in 1989, He influences a generation of singers and songwriters. He charted nineteen singles on the Billboard country charts, including five consecutive Number Ones: "Don't Close Your Eyes", "When You Say Nothing at All", "I'm No Stranger to the Rain", "I Wonder Do You Think of Me" , "It Ain't Nothin'". Right enough

  • @animegirlluver05 She was married to Pat Bergeson, for 4 years, she has a son, Sam and now is single for a long time. But then, she keeps her private live very private. But the combination of voices is nice, country and bluegrass. It works very well, I think. Always underestimated Krauss, but she keeps a low profile while she did some amazing work.

  • nice job on this video"... i wish keith whitley was still here putting out music to the world... hes so missed.. and god bless him... allison krauss did a fine job with it,, though noone will ever replace Keith".. he was truly a country gem" that was one of a kind:)
