This is the longer version of September Song. The singer is Walter Huston who was somewhat limited in range but for whom composer Kurt Weill and lyricist Maxwell Anderson wrote this specially. The song originally appeared in the Broadway show 'Knickerbocker Holiday' in 1938. According to the sleeve notes of 'Mack The Knife - Songs of Kurt Weill' this version was recorded in 1938 and 1944. For me it's the definitive version...nobody puts the same longing and melancholy into it as Walter Huston.
Enjoy!!!
Walter Huston (ne Houghston)--Father to John, Grandfather to Angelica. What a lineage.

kurt weill's masterpiece that always bring me back to my father - a sublime, loving human being who fought in the war and reminded me constantly that the opportunity to love and help others is short.

Great sound, considering the age. As for the song...heartbreaking.

It's nice to hear the complete version but, for my money, Willie Nelson renders the best version I have heard even without the two verses...which takes the right singer to connect with the refrain part of the song.

This is a beautiful tribute to a magnificent man, an ageless song and someone you obviously love very much. Thank you
