Certainly can't argue with what you've said, but if it wasn't clear I was saying that Cortez made up the claim that the natives mistook him for Quetzalcoatl returning as a means of calling them ignorant and easy to trick.

This is to explain and interpret, for me...

What is described is the evolution, which must have taken place, from reptiles to birds (--archeopteryx)

They went to heaven (the sky) and they will come back to earth (to form non flying birds, or other branches of evolution). Remember the first birds might have been giant. And some overlapping with other flying reptiles (pterosaurs)..

of course the myth is interesting because it may cover some details we don't know fully....
