Taughannock Falls is one of the signature attractions of the Finger Lakes area. It's set in the back of a wide canyon before abruptly ending about a mile from Cayuga Lake featuring the impressive 215ft plunging waterfall. The falls is quite narrow and therefore has varying degrees of flow as it rages in the spring and trickles in late summer. The gorge walk is mostly shaded and flat with interpretive signs talking about the ecology and geology of the gorge. There's also another smaller but attractive cascade near the beginning of the short 3/4-mile hike from the car park.
You can experience this waterfall through the Gorge Trail or you can also drive up to a large car park at the rim of the amphitheater of the falls. From there, you get nice birdseye views of the falls and the canyon's abrupt end.
