  • 5 O Sink!!!!!

  • Sure, gotta give credit where credit is due...if that's where D/501 was then the monument should be to them...

  • Whatever... Still, this monument is so far from where the much worshiped Easy 506 was located as to be an egregious error in placement. If anything, this monument should be renamed for D/501 for it was they who did much of the fighting in this immediate area.

  • Easy Co. was not "chosen at random", they were chosen to be the focus of the book because their exemplary actions kept showing up in the research Stephen E. Ambrose was doing on books like D-Day. As he did more research on the Company's service record and took note of how close they remained after the war he thought they would be the subject of a good book about an excellent group of soldiers. But it was their battle performance that caught his eye to begin with. Don't forget that.

  • E/506 was made "famous" for not much more reason than it was selected at random to be the focus of a book. The monument you see to E/506 is located in a poor position. E/506 was never at this spot. The woods on your left walking toward Foy were occupied by at least SIX companies of the 501st after 4 January 1945. You cannot say with any certainty that a particular foxhole was dug by a man from any particular company.

  • But they are not from that famous company!

Those foxholes are from D/506, A/506 and D/501!

  • Head down that road toward Foy. most of the foxholes are on your left as you exit the forrest.
