  • Very cool, and thanks for posting. When was this particular recording made? Would appreciate more info in the "more info" link.

  • Unless I'm mistaken this recording was made in 1955-56. The piece was composed by Frank Foster who was alt and tenor saxophonist in the Count Basie Orchestra. He also composed following pieces for the Count Basie Orchestra;

    Back to the Apple, Discommotion, Blues in Hoss Flat, Down for the Count and Blues Backstage . Otherwise I don't know anything more to tell you about this specific track.

  • I'm playing this in jazz band

  • @schneibgamer1 My brother is doing the same

  • @margaretahern This was the Basie orchestra, reformed after his short small group period. I saw them at The Festival Hall in London 1956. Seldom have I heard such perfction since. Basie used sidemen who played in a tight unit, each giving each other hell if they stepped (musically) out of line - but each would play great solos. Their "Atomic Basie" tells all - my favourite being the Lockjaw solo on "Whirlybird". I met him and asked him about that solo - but that's another story

  • @schneibgamer1 meh too

  • @schneibgamer1 Same here.

  • This is a post 1956 recording of this song.

    As a matter of fact this sounds like it was recorded in the 80s.
