Mac and Rachel Are Reunited With Amanda, 1989

After Sam tracked down where Amanda and Evan were being held, he and Evan brawled with Dustin Trent and his henchman, Andrews. Evan ended up taking a bullet intended for Amanda, and Amanda insisted on going to the hospital with Evan, so Sam went with Amanda. Trent was arrested, and a search for Andrews was launched.

In these scenes, Mac and Rachel arrive at the hospital with Alli, and reunions abound (Mac and Rachel being reunited with Amanda, and Amanda being reunited with Alli). Mac and Rachel are concerned that Amanda is too pale and thin, and Amanda again refuses Sam's suggestion that she see a doctor. Mac and Rachel are eternally grateful to Sam and Evan for their courage, and for having the sense to follow their instincts when they believed Amanda was in trouble. Amanda insists that what happened had nothing to do with her trying to get a story, but Sam and Mac disagree: Amanda takes too many risks, and her safety comes first. The job is a distant second. Amanda says that the thought of coming back to Alli and Sam is what kept her hanging on. Ronnie breaks things up because Evan needs his rest, and Mac and Rachel thank Evan again. Amanda hates to leave Evan alone, but Evan tells her to go and be with her family. Mac tells Rachel they have calls to make to let everyone know Amanda is safe. Rachel wants to call Ada first. Mac wants to call Iris. Rachel, who just found out that Iris was really "The Chief," thinks back to telling Cass not to tell Mac about it until they're absolutely certain it was her, then tells Mac that she'll take care of Iris. Evan tells Amanda when she comes back to visit, just to bring herself. Sam thanks Evan for what he did. Evan replies that he just wishes he could have gotten to Amanda sooner.
