I am soooo Happy this is being featured on American Masters. She is a Family Relative from Cotton Plant Ark. My Mom has very fond memories of Sis. Tharpe. visiting her backstage .. spending nights over their house in Cotton Plant. When one walked into the front yard it was if B.B. King and the Guys were inside playing...it was Her..Sis Tharpe.All of Family still there in Cotton Plant and Brinkley ( Louis Jordan's Hometown) very talented little stop half way between Little Rock and Memphis.

I first really heard of her through aexcellent PBS special I cannot reccomend enough called The History Of Gospel Music.

A treasure indeed. And what a shame there is nothing in Cotton Plant giving recognition of her. And another treasure from my home " Louis Jordan" very little except a bad statue erected by the town power base to boost their annual red neck jamboree LOL. Sad
