@whatyouchating the UK and the US are far different in a number of ways which make comparing them a fools task. the question is not which country has more homicides but did the gun laws reduce the number of homicides and for the UK the answer in NO!!! also the UK has 2 times the number of violent crimes and nearly 4 times the number of rapes than the US.

Funny comments on here. Yes it took too long for armed police to take him out. But this happens very rarely and coul have happend with a knife. Police with guns is a very bad idea, America is a living case study for this, it just takes it to the next level.

@CastAirLead after the handgun ban in the UK in 1997, gun crime has not dropped at all, neither has overall crime, so why should we enact laws that just don't work, just like drugs, there still illegal, but they still get smuggled in, and people get the Easily.

Including farmers who rely on them for pest contol!! Even if a "honest" person is in control of a gun who is to say this wont happen again (i'm sure Dereck was once a honest person according to some of his friends during interviews??) Hands are tied on this one and I doubt anything else can be done.
