Zoe, 35, is a talented musician, composer and respected music therapist. Externally, she's a professional, successful woman, in rigid control of her life. Internally she bleeds for her four year old son, Tommy, who drowned accidentally four years earlier. She has not forgiven herself or her mother, Eunice, who was supposedly supervising Tommy. Tommy inspired Zoe's compositions. When he died, her ability to compose died.
When Eunice, who lives in the moment and believes Zoe should too, invades her home and her life, she brings the ghost of Tommy with her. Slowly the music returns and threatens to overtake Zoe's life. Eunice also gatecrashes Zoe's therapy ensemble and tries to run her life.
The central questions are: will Zoe let Eunice back into her life and how can Zoe bring healing to the people in the ensemble when she refuses to confront her own grief or forgive her mother?
