Part 1 of 4. Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of HERZOG ZWEI, the realtime strategy game for the Sega Genesis. Herzog Zwei is a game where you play realtime strategy against an opponent as a transformable jet fighter that turns into a giant robot, like a Transformer (Jetfire anyone?) or a Veritech fighter from Robotech (Jetfire anyone?). Similar in style to Command and Conquer yet different in every way from Command and Conquer, Herzog Zwei is a challenging game that allows you to command an army of tanks, missile launchers, bikes, armored cars and gun turrets and wage war against a mysterious blue alien race of tanks and transforming robots. Capture bases, waste enemy units with your giant Go Bot and blow their headquarters to bits. If you want to learn some tips and tricks and how to play Herzog Zwei watch the four part review for gameplay. Tips and tricks flow out of this gameplay rich review because CGRHD is a master of Herzog Zwei and believes that it needs to come out on Xbox Live Arcade XBLA or PS3 Playstation 3 Network so that the rich multiplayer mode of the game can be brought back to life. Technosoft created this game in 1989 and it was released for the United States version of the Mega Drive (Megadrive) in 1990. The Mega Drive had many games from Technosoft including THUNDER FORCE 2, Thunder Force 3 and Thunder Force 4 (Lightning Force aka Lightening Force). Save your game with codes from Herzog Zwei, and this video series shows some codes for Herzog Zwei along with gameplay tips, tricks and strategy! Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The reviews on the HD series are reviewing PS3, PS2, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360. @Zero771 I wish he would go back to that style because his videos sounded more raw and natural than they do now. The 2008 CGRs were awesome. Mark was funny, intellectual and he did a lot of multi part videos. From 2010 to now, I find his commentary to be too flashy, reminds me of all the other game reviewers.

talking about *spiritual successor* Airmech by Carbon Games is to HZ as DOTA2 (or HoN) is to DotA. its basically the same thing. with that said, having seeing Airmech vids, i can never look back to HZ

@InecomCompany Sorry to again slam in here... but I tought I let you know (if you don't know already) and indeed all HZ fans who don't know, that there is a *spiritual successor* to HZ in the works. Much like what Supreme Commander is to Total Annihilation, it appears Airmech's primary source of inspiration is indeed HZ. I just found out about this. Chk out the YT vids.

@InecomCompany Possible HZ error/bug? According to the then Sega Visions mag, if you managed to get at least 1 infantry unit inside an already enemy captured sub-base, that base was supposed to switch back to neutral: neither player now has the full 4 infantry units controlling the sub-base. But that is not what happens. It remains in enemy control until, of course, you come in & put all 4 infantry inside his base. So, who's right: HZ or the mag?

@pumataino It could have been awesome on the DS. Its so frustrating that this amazing game has not had a remake/sequel. With Technosoft gone, and Sega being clusless, its sadly unlikely to get the update it deserves.

Its surprizing that you have to take care of each individual unit's ammo *and* fuel. TA, SComm, StarC & even M.A.X. don't have both those logistics. Also, how the terrain affects movement (units sliding on snow!) was also ahead of time. Once we discovered 1 can change orders of already made units, the multi-player experience intensified. Heh, I wanted to put a cardboard to hide each section of the screen (fog of war) but TV wasen't big enough.

HZ, best game on Genesis. After beating TFII, I was ready for more shooter action. Saw HZ also by Techno, took it home, tossed away the manual & wtf? No power-ups, bosses, ship? Could not understand what I was seeing. I gave up, but when my father arrived, he knew. Its was the game he was waiting for. As soon as I got the hang of it, the other games started to gather dust. Ingenious I tought...
