MacBook Won't Start

NOTE: The computer was fixed over a year ago!

I have a MacBook, just over a year old. Core Duo 2ghz 80gb memory 1G RAM. It is on and then it just turns off! And it is NOT just a battery problem. When AC plug is not connected, it will randomly shut down (at different battery charge levels). When I try to start it back up, each time it goes a little ways and then shuts down, and the more you try, the less far it gets in starting up.

With the AC plug in, sometimes it won't even do anything. You push the button, and the little white light comes on, and you can hear the fan or something start moving, but the computer never starts up and it just sits like that. Or if it does try to start up, it goes a little ways and then shuts down, but with the AC plug in, after a second it tries again to start up without me pushing the power button. It keeps trying until I pull out the plug or force shutdown.

I have all of the firmware and battery updates. I tried resetting the SMC. I can't calibrate the battery in it's current condition, it would never stay on long enough for that. I have tried every possible thing listed in the manual and on Apple's website. The computer just won't stay on long enough for any to do anything. I took it in to an Apple retail store, and after having it for a week, they said they couldn't duplicate the problem. I took it home today, and 10 minutes after starting it up, it shutdown and now will not start back up.

@TheOnehappyrobot Actually, they ended up fixing it for free, out of warranty. So I'd say that's pretty good customer service.

This is just an option friends and you may consider asking some more friends who has the knowledge about this issue before replacing your HD. Cheers and goodluck !

You may consider replacing your Mac's HD to a new one then reformat it before reinstalling the OS.

OK I think you take out the power cord and Battery than hold the power button for 5 seconds and replace power

I wonder why MacBooks startup with that weird sound? Is it from the HDD?

You should have told it to Steve Jobs that macbook didn't start properly before he passed away
