Haha :D It seemed like Bennett felt a little uncomfortable there talking about "Below the waist...above the ankles" ;D

Hehehe, John was holding the garter like it was going to bite him or something LOL

If a man catches the garter at a wedding reception, he typically will wear it on his arm. I've caught a few.

I love Arlene's "Don't look at me" expression.

@IEnjoyHippies Yep she was one of a kind!

I love Arlene's shrug when Bennett looks at her, almost for help. She looks as though she's checking to see if she's actually wearing the product. Then, he does it again thanks to Steve's initial use of AF as an example. So funny.
"Alright, I'd like to ask that question." Steve's so cute.

@Imthecuteone According to Gil Fates, who was the EP of the show, around a dozen of the early episodes survived - most of 1950 and almost all of 1951 are gone. CBS was wanting to recycle the kinescopes to recover the silver used to make them. When Mark Goodson and Bill Todman found out about this, they were livid, and stepped right in to preserve what they could;fortunately, the vast majority of episodes from July, 1952 onward were able to be saved.

Dorothy was too smart.

@slickhector Yes.

@slickhector originally, yes they would have held up stockings because it would have been considered improper for a lady to have bare legs, especially at such a formal occasion. Now, since it is so common for women to go bare-legged the garters would be merely decorative and go against the skin
-
"Does it hold them up?"
"No."
-
Bridle garters hold up the top of a stocking by gripping with elastic. They don't work if the stocking has slipped out from underneath! They shouldn't be touching the skin...
Gil Fates insisted that in this period only Steve Allen got to do occasional gambit lines of off-subject questioning for comic effect. I can only assume that Bennett's first line of questioning 1:33 > 2:33 happened spontaneously.
RE "wolf type": English slang has changed. Now DK would ask "If a man had a collection of these, would he be a pervert fetishist?"
5:42 Interesting how the audience nearly mutinied over Daly's distinction between regular garters and decorative bridal garters.

You are right, English slang has changed very much.
In today's climate, maybe we'd hear this question, "Like if some man has like a lot of these and whatever...then he's like a ho or something?"
