Shaykh-ul-Islam said that 'Shaykh' occupies the central place in the process of spiritual growth. Being a 'Shaykh' (spiritual mentor) is neither a business nor an inheritance. Rather anyone who fulfills the demands of 'Ehsan' (excellence), 'Iman' (faith) and 'Islam' (obedience) can attain to this status. He rises to this rank like an ordinary person who continues to acquire education and ends up becoming a specialist in his field, a scholar, a businessman or a scientist. Shaykh-ul-Islam said emphatically that whosoever would acquire the requisite attributes of a spiritual being, he would carve out a place for himself. Being a Sajjada Nasheen is not necessary to become a 'Shaykh', rather whosoever chooses the path of 'Shariah and Tareeqat' with sincerity of purpose may become 'Shaykh'.
