Before you apply for YouTube Partnership, you need to know that there is absolutely no tolerence for copyright (material or content you do not own), and that you need to know what fair use actually means. YouTube definitely will not accept you as a YouTube Partner if your channel has copyright material or, you are not properly fairly using other content.

Copyright happens when you use someone elses content or material (like music), without their permission as an expression for your own content and material. For example, you get partnered and decide to put up Katy Perry's song on your videos for background music, it is copyright and YouTube WILL shut you down! Any material or content made by you, you own the copyrights to that sound, or whatever it may be. If someone else has created it, you have to get their permission or it is copyright. When you need music to use, make sure that it is covered by royalty free creative commons. This music and its use will be explained in a further blog. DeStorm Powers is a big YouTuber and his videos are a perfect illustration on which he respects copyrights. When he does covers or parodies for certain songs, he makes up the entire beat all on his own, unidentical to the original content, and uses it for his videos.

Fair Use means that you are only using someone else's cotent for educational purposes or to make a specific point about the subject. RayWilliamJohnson is a big YouTuber and most of his videos are a perfect illustration of fair use because he shows clips of different videos that he doesn't own to make a specific point, relative statement, or for educational purpose. Using fair use would be walking a thin line because it's hard to judge whether or not you are "fairly" using someone elses material, especially if they wanted to come after you for it. RJared's best advice for all YouTube Parnters is to be 100% original in everything that you do.

  • This may seem dumb, but it is a serious question.

You say that you can't tell anyone how much you're making from your Google AdSense account. What about my wife and family? Cuz that would make budgeting really hard if I can't talk about it to my wife.

  • i edit with pinnacle studio 10 and it came with music that i could add to my videos . would it be copyright if i put it with my videos and applied those videos to make money

  • How did you get perm, for the background music?

  • I don't understand why some partners who are musicians e.g. boyce avenue, kina grannis, alyssa bernal etc. get away with uploading covers every week?

  • WILL YOUTUBE PARTNERSHIP DENY YOU IF YOU HAVE TUTORIALS HOW TO WATCH MOVIES ONLINE FOR FREE ...WILL YOU GET DENIED ??

  • I have a question:

Is having a poster of a band or movie considered copyright if I'm going to ad-sense that video? I'm not talking about the poster or even anything related to it but it will have adds on it.

    Is this considered copyright?

  • ifi will downloadsongs from itunes is that copyright

  • If im recording one to 2 guitar tracks and using the original drum track and vocals in the background. Is it considered copyright or Fair Use? Or would i have to create a drum track and just scrap the vocals since i can't sing? :P
