Two techniques are worth noting. One is the constant hand on the throttle. The other is the active use of rudder on takeoff but particularly on landing, where small but quick corrections are used to maintain alignment and prevent ground looping - so call "happy feet".

  • When soloing from the rear seat shoulder harnesses, it's tough to reach the carb heat knob, hence the little home-made claw. It also works well to reach the cabin heat.
