area 51 did not originate any alien stories, it just gave them a home. The operatives never had a choice in that matter. Encounters, and abductions are independent of this area. However, it is likely to be a reverse engineering department. Clinton alluded to this as truth.

I wonder if the reason why there's so much security is because it has biological and chemical research there in Area 51. And don't want some one to get to close and accidentally get some kind of 28 Days Later or Quarantine virus and have it spread to the world.
