TRANSCRIPT:
In the not too distant future of 1999, Earth has come under attack by aliens who want to invade and enslave humanity -- the usual story. The nations of the world, finding themselves unable to repel the alien menace individually, decide to form a multinational team to defend and protect the earth! Uh, no, not them.
Snappily named X-COM, which stands for extraterrestrial combat unit, the group uses a captured alien power source, Elerium, to develop advanced weaponry, armor, and the mysterious technology known as turn-based gameplay. Having repelled the alien menace by crushing their base on Mars under the sea, the team inadvertently poisoned all of the Earth's oceans. Well done.
The third games takes place a 100 years on, and dome cities on Earth are under attack from UFO's portaling in through strange tetrahedron shaped warp pods. After that, the little known X-COM Interceptor changed the genre to space shooter. And the new game, just called XCOM with no hyphen, will switch to a first person shooter set in an alternate 1960's. I'm sure this won't alienate the fan base. Oh ho ho!
Let's just hope it doesn't suck.
