Do you have unbacked up music and need to get your music off your iPod? This guide is for you

On regular iPods: enable disk use instead of using iPhone folders, open the iPod, enable hidden files and folders then open the iTunes media folder.

Download iPhone Folders: http://iphonefolders.com/

Just can't get it to work?: http://www.ipodrobot.com/

EDIT:
I've noticed that iPhone folders hasn't gotten updates recently, so if it doesn't work for you, try using iPhone Explorer. You can get it at http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/

To use iPhone Explorer, just launch the application, plug in your device, and use the left side bar to navigate to Media, iTunes_Control; and copy the files out.

Just make sure to kill all iTunes related processes if you don't want it to be synced.

Also, as of writing this 8/23/11, I got an error when I ran it about a safari system file--CoreFoundation.dll--being changed (even though I don't have safari) but was still able to copy files from my iPod touch 4.

  • what should i do if my ipod is coming up as a camera

  • @UnGr3aTFuL Windows does this since that's the only thing Apple wants you to use it for without going into iTunes.

If you're following the video method, but using the software in the description, the processes are completely different. Instead of using Windows Explorer, open iExplorer (the one you just installed), and select your iPod from the sidebar. From there, open Media, iTunes_Control, and copy the files out.

  • It doesnt work with windows 7 64bit systems. But it works with everything else, lol wow.

  • @TheLg884 Are you sure you're using the updated method in the description? I use Windows 7 x64 and iExplorer worked fine other than the weird Safari .dll error I mentioned in the description (which didn't even affect it).

With the older software, it hasn't been updated in years, so I would kind of expect that...

  • where is windows task manager i cant find it on my computer

  • @richpartygal123 Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc. to open it directly. You can also press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, but if you're on vista or 7, you also have to click "Start Task Manager".

You could also just right click the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and click "Start Task Manager"
