Hannah Storm speaks with director Jon Frankel about his new documentary "Hellfighters: A Season In Harlem" and its look at the struggles faced by an urban high school football team. (CBSNews.com)
Why should a Black man from a poor family have to play football? Don't these guys have the right to an education? Don't they have the right to oneday occupy the same corridor as those kids from suburbia?
Try watching THE GREAT DEBATERS. Those men/women strove to prove to America that they were intelligent, even though they were absolutely expendible to the whites. They chose to prove themselves through ACADEMIC activity.
It's Fergerson not Ferguson. And maybe this is what these kids need to build them some confidence. Sorry but these kids do not live in suburbia. They need to be taught discipline . He he might be the man that can do it.. Obivously MondoBeno can't do anything for them since he has nothing positive to say.
I taught several of those boys. They were chronic truants, and Ferguson is a lousy, racist, bully. The guy in this interview is wrong. Nursing and medicine are more important than a football career which will last you a few years if you're lucky.
High school football is the opiate of the American masses. It distracts kids from real careers, like mechanics, electronics, and hopefully medicine and law.
both of you are ignorant. I play on this team and Coach Duke is only trying to bring something productive to the new york city area.
