I take diphenhydramine every night for sleep and it works pretty good actually. Not as good as alcohol or xanax but what can you expect! Any thing 100mg and up gives me horrible restless leg syndrome. I usually stay around 25-75mg for sleep. Can you suggest anything else OTC or herbal that would be useful for insomnia. So now I know why when I refused BENZOS in the ER as I always will from now on..... they wanted to give me Benadryl. I told them that Benadryl does nothing to me whatsoever but they insisted I have it. I was fine.. why they push these sedative drugs on people is beyond me. I took the dose they gave me and as usual it did nothing to me. I think they were disappointed. Hah..

Hah! In high school I used to take Benadryl for allergies if we had days running around the track in PE, and it would make me euphoric and hyperactive, and I'd have some disinhibition too, like I felt impervious to things. I don't use it much any more but I find it interesting that it's possible to have the opposite reaction than usual with it.

@ThePandoh I'm not the DOM, but Promethazine(Phenergan) is about the best sleep aid that is not addictive or harmful in normal doses.25mg should knock you out I find taking it regularly it looses its efficacy so you may find 50mg more helpful if you take Benadryl.Stay away from the Benzo's and alcohol there no good, they only CAUSE problems not fix them. I would not prescribe Xanax for sleep if someone put a gun to my head.

@crb2011 I'm not the uploader but that's pretty common. Usually people don't mess with it after experimenting once, but a handful of individuals enjoy the dysphoric effects and delirium. Continued "abusers" often shoot for the 150mg-250mg, 700mg-900mg range. As the uploader stated, DPH is not a great thing to mess about with. Short-term effects are extreme and long-term effects can be even worse if heavily abused. Plus there is always risk for HPPD.

Potent stuff ! It gave me hallucinations and made me anxious. 50 mg is more sedating for me than 5 mg nitrazepam. Sold as Calmaben in Romania...
