EZIO PINZA(1892-1957) WAS THE POSSESSOR OF A TRYLY MAGNIFICENT BASS VOICE. HE MADE HIS OPERA DEBUT AT LA SCALA IN 1922, AND HIS MET DEBUT IN 1926, WHERE HE SANG 750 PERFORMANCES BEFORE HIS RETIREMENT. HE WAS OFFERED SEVERAL FILM ROLES IN HOLLYWOOD, FROM WHICH THIS CLIP OF HIM SINGING THE ROLE OF MEPHISTOFELE.
A GREAT LITTLE CLIP, WITH NO INTERRUPTIONS FROM ANY DIALOGUE. MOST HOLLYWOOD MUSICALS HAD DIALOGUE OVER THE MUSICAL PARTS, WHICH SOIMETIMES RUIN THE MUSIC.
ENJOY!!!!

  • I wish I could find Pinza's TV show 'Bonino' somewhere. He had such a magnetic presence along with his superb voice, whether in opera, film or Broadway musical. He was in the process of committing to a non musical Broadway play, just before he died.

  • This is amazing. Pinza. Probably one of the only t.v. clips still around. God bless his soul. He's singing to the angels now.

  • Thanks Dan for another fine clip of Ezio Pinza. I swear I could listen to him sing the phone book. He actually was a good actor, if Hollywood did the right casting for him.
