you can get hay (like straw) from the local feed store. you can probably get the parts that fall to the floor for free.

Thanks for the wonderful tips and your humour. Great video. I plan to use this model for a stray in my yard. I can't take him in due to allergies and he looks desperate with the cold right now.

I think I have enough junk around the house to make one of these for my two outside cats the neighbor left behind..

@mycoffeecups..GREAT JOB...and entertaining video! Thanks for the tips. My only concern is...keeping it from blowing away. I suppose I could bungee it to our fence or something, but I also thought using this as the "guts" to a wooden house would be a great idea. I have an entire colony that has adopted us over the last year or so. Living in Michigan means I must be a responsible "parent" and give em a nice n warm shelter. Thanks for the video...I'm starting my project...Right Now!!! :o)
Nice tutorial, thanks!

skin cancer, I got lucky : )
I was on a short time table to finish the video as my son was helping do it for a school project, i had surgery mid filming and despite not feeling great and looking like i was growing a horn, the show had to go on.

Try the dollar store for mylar sheets!
I think this might also be a great idea for a solar oven, esp. the mylar lining. Paint the outside black, add a clear plexi top and tilt the lid up to direct the sun into the box. Place a black-colored cook pot with the food inside a clear oven bag (turkey roasting bag), put that inside on a rack, tilt the top of the box so it catches the sunshine, and dinner will be ready in an order of magnitude longer than what it would take in the microwave.
