The Allegro Youth Orchestra continues its emerging role as an innovative ensemble as they embrace new genres for each concert. The last project featured the alternative-rock sounds of Pan.a.ce.a, a high-energy and evolving group from central Pennsylvania. This newest project brings traditional Irish music together with AYO. The orchestral parts were specially prepared by Viktoras Prizgintas who founded and conducts this dynamic young ensemble. "What I have attempted to accomplish is to not necessarily write in a traditional "Irish" style, but rather to use this new form to create a bridge connecting the classical tradition of Allegro's on-going work. As with our previous project, this efforts seeks to create new relationships with other art forms and organizations, relationships that otherwise might not ever exist," according to Prizgintas.
The impact of this trend with AYO is generating new interest about this effort. Students and parents of the orchestra, as well as other community members, find this concept refreshing. "More than ever, students are beginning to tell their friends and parents are engaging their neighbors and other family members to come listen to AYO's new sound. And since these orchestral arrangements are specially written for each event, the results are truly original -- you will not hear these arrangements elsewhere." Prizgintas feels that these compositions help to craft a unique sound -- a sound you will only hear with the students from AYO.
Does your "friend" know the man personally, or are "they" stating this out of their incredibly keen insight?

I wish there was! This was a special project I put together with them and the Allegro Orchestra. I hope to do additional projects not only with these talented young artists, but with other musicians reflecting diverse styles and traditions. Please take a little time to view other Allegro Orchestra projects on YouTube and thank you for your interest.

I had the honor of conducting the Allegro Orchestra in this performance with the Linnane School of Irish Music. Combining these two ensembles with different traditions created a wonderful result that displayed what both have in common -- high energy, great artistry, and amazing skill!
