A moving Discover the Wild vignette that shows the Birds of Prey Foundation near Broomfield, Colorado. Here Sigrid Ueblacker and a cadre of volunteers nurse, nurture, and bring back to health injured birds of prey from throughout the West.
i hadn't talked to sigrid since almost a year ago. she knew of my desire to return to the foundation to volunteer and said, you will be back.
recently i found out the care2 site was asking its members to nominate a Hero Next Door and i have nominated sigrid. she deserves an award like that - even if posthumously.
she is the single most influential person i have met & connected with who understood my love for the protection of this world's precious wild animals.
several years ago i met sigrid when i began to volunteer at birds of prey foundation. she aptly named me a pet name - i don't know how to say it, because it is austrian, but it means "spicy mustard" - she said it fit me.
the very first day i volunteered she awarded me with accompanying her on a release of one of the precious birds of prey. she was so happy to see how hard i worked the first day that she allowed me that pleasure in addition to the pleasure of knowing her through the years.
Sigrid was the most inspirational person I have ever met in my life. I'm glad I got the privilege to meet such an amazing woman you will live forever in my heart <3
i miss her too ;(
