I buy all of my tools used. You have no idea how many people will want to throw their old shovels and hoes away so they can buy new ones. Sure some are beyond repair and need to be replaced, but with a little sharpening, you can get up to 5 or 10 more years use! Imagine all the money you can save on tools!

Good point! We don't want to eat motor oil lol! I burn all my motor oil in a fire pit.

That's a really good idea, thanks. But I'd use something else that motor oil ... it is full of chemicals - not good in nature.. or in the veggies we eat :)

I never thought about maintaining my garden tools until now....I used to just go out and buy new tools when the old ones rusted. Now, I do oil the wooden handles because if you do NOT...then they get splinters.

Take a 5 gallon bucket fill it halfway with gravel type cat litter and pour leftover oil in to the top of the litter then you can clean your shovels and hand tools just by moving them up and down in the bucket, I do it every time I bring my tools in. Works great I have shovel I've used for over 20 years, I do use motor oil and it's never been a problem for me.
