A silent film showing stages of building an early AC generator at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. By 1900 AC power had established itself around the world as the preferred form of electric power. Siemens, Oerlikon, General Electric and Westinghouse were all producing large numbers of generators for a vast number of locations. Some locations were cities for the electric light, some locations which purchased the new expensive capability of electric power included agricultural areas(electricity was used in pumps for irrigation), military sites, mining areas, and isolated factories. Generators were improving by leaps and bounds as corporate competition paid engineers well for their improvements. 3 Phase power was the dominant system as established by pioneer Dobrovolsky a decade earlier.
