My experience with modern Chinese bells and gongs is that if they were made without a heart - if they are trying to copy Tibetan Singing Bowls - or else they are made for Kung-Fu, the Lion Dance, in which case they are too dissonant - they do not adapt so well to western music. tastes, or for use in a modern percussion rack.
However if you know of a Chinese village area which has a long tradition of bell-making I would certainly like to hear about it, and what kinds of products they make. Tony
