This video is horrible where did they get this guy? Im a personal trainer, Medical Massage Therapist, and yoga instructor that is not the proper way to stretch your shin, that stretches your calf, and the rotation warm up your ankle, you want to actually do the opposite of what he did, it is best done sitting on your heals on the floor. thumbs down for sure

@uberfoop also, just don't heel strike and you won't get shin splints...
-
@brucelee2468 I'm really sorry you have them....=[ i found out the same way

Shin splints do have to do with lack of stretching, implicitly, but he fails to explain the reason they happen. Shin splints are a result of over-working before the legs are ready to start working harder. And the stretch he's demonstrating doesn't stretch the shins at all, but rather the exact opposite. It's simply flexing the muscle. That's a calf stretch, and a poor one at that. Never calf stretch with nothing beneath your arch and heel. Use a slant board or bent-leg pushing against a wall.

Lollervid. The common shin splints generally happen from the muscles along the shin, not stress fractures. The first stretch shown stretches the calf muscles, not the shin, and won't do anything towards shin splits. To deal with shin splints adequately, it helps a LOT to not just stretch, but also do various walking exercises. Like heal and toe walks.
