The massed Pipes & Drums march on joining the other bands to the very rousing tune of "79th's Farewell to Gibraltar". The march was composed by Pipe Major John MacDonald of the Cameronian Volunteers (79th of Foot).

  • (was not talking about the specific case of the 79th, I don't even know if it still exists. Maybe the Regt's now a battalion within the Royal Regiment of Scotland?)

  • Well said kilbraur, the GHB does not need watering down with that horrendous oom pa pa sound, salvation army type brass racket.Brass is ok on its own if you like that kind of thing, but it destroys the fantastic sound of the pipes at every opportunity IMHO.

  • Why do musical directors always have to spoil traditional bagpipe tunes by overlaying brass bands? It adds nothing.

  • man its sounds soooo much better with the brass

  • @kilbraur diversity is the answer

  • @officialPaze When pigs can fly; and there are no more Barbary apes on Gibraltar.

  • i dont think the brass parts are really that bad, the bagpipes still stands out above all, i just like how it provdes kinda like a bass of the bagpipes sound, you know instead of the sound of the drones, but just my opinion though, bagpipe marches are still the best though !! :D

  • Love this tune. I'm from Gibraltar =D

  • The Scottish Brass Bands Are Pretty Good Too

  • We'll be saying "Farewell to Gibraltar" soon when they're independent... oh - of course; that'll be after Scotland is in November though :)

  • I think it sounds fine.

  • The 79th Highland Regiment of Foot (Cameron Highlanders) so-called because the regiment was formed from the clan of the Chief of the Clan Cameron. 79th = Camerons, Scottish Rifles = Cameronians. The use of Cameronians by the poster is erroneous. The two titles are not interchangeable.
