They take one scripture in I Cor. 5, and blow it out of proportion. The heart of Christ's message is GRACE. If they believe the story of the prodigal son, they should show grace to those who are struggling with their faith, not outcast them and refuse to eat with them.

Jesus ate with the sinners around him and showed COMPASSION towards them and yet here are the Brethren doing whatever means necessary to NOT have contact with any sinners at all. They have lost the true heart of Christ's love.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). That's all you need. The New Testament is not about RULES. Following rules will not get you to heaven.

Following the 10 commandments will bless your life and make things easier (we reap what we sow), but they won't get you to heaven. Only accepting Christ as your personal saviour will make heaven your home.

so, it doesn't really matter if you follow the 10 commandments as long as you accept Jesus as your saviour? Did I get that right?

The point is our works won't save us. The Bible says our righteousness is like filthy rags to God. Even if we followed the Law perfectly, all that effort will not make us righteous enough to enter heaven. Accepting Christ's sacrifice as the only atonement for our sins is what makes us right with God.

We do good works because we love God and want to obey Him, but at the end of the day, we are all stumbling sinners only saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ, not by our own efforts.

It can seem cruel but in reality it did happen in the bible. This happens with the Jehovahs witnesses as well. This happens for good reason when people pollute the church with sin. The anglican church is now a big example of that as people are not removed and bad practices come in leading people astray with aloof bishops doing nothing.

yes, but in the bible, that form of behaviour was reletive to the times the people lived in, where not going by the laws of the bible could lead to life and death decisions and mistakes, today we have state and country laws to take care of us, there are other ways of looking after our loved ones, without being cruel. And as for poluting the church with sin, why did the leader of the brethren sleep with those women years back? He implemented the laws against others and yet broke them himself!

But many religious groups actually do not believe any secular state is really doing Gods will or in accordance with Christian teaching. The sin, risk, murder, terrorism, militant atheism, and polluted church teachings is still widespread.
