Boxing Day session with the Blue Nights, marked by the guest appearance of Gordon Bostock who performed his usual magic on the trumpet/cornet. Gordon's was the first jazz band I played with back in 1950, following my stint with a little dance band in the RAF, and we played together for quite some time.
The Blue Nights was a Chicago Style jazz band that Mac Randle led in the 1990's on Soprano Sax as opposed to the normal Trumpet. The band played weekly at the Princethorpe Club, a popular jazz venue between Coventry and Rugby. This particular session was a very busy and noisy affair but we all enjoyed the festive spirit. Quite a few visiting musicians stopped by and had a blow. The Bechet influence is obvious but don't look for emulation here :)
Recorded by Bill Torrance on Boxing Day 1991 at the Princethorpe Club and recently processed by Midnitesun with further editing by Remsys.
