If you think used plastics and empty soda bottles are waste, think again. Did you know that eighty plastic bottles can be turned into a blanket, twenty bottles into a shirt, and three thousand bottles into one classroom?

This December, GMA's pioneer environment program proves that from what we normally view as trash, solutions can be BORN.

On its third anniversary, Born to be Wild launches its latest version of the Born Project. An annual activity in time for the Christmas spirit of giving, the two-part Born Project initiates concrete efforts to help wildlife and the environment. It is an interactive project which encourages viewers to contribute their efforts via pledges and volunteer work.

Last year, hundreds of people pledged to do their share in protecting the environment through simple measures like cutting down unnecessary consumption, bringing their own bags to the grocery and recycling at home. This year, Born to be Wild takes pledging one step further by building something functional from seemingly useless stuff.

For several months now, Born to be Wild has been collecting used plastic bottles from viewer volunteers and establishments. The result? Instead of ending up in landfills or as ocean wastes that poison marine life, thousands upon thousands of plastic bottles piled up inside the Born Project boxes for a good cause!

These bottles will be turned into useful items like blankets, t-shirts, and construction materials to help build new classrooms and reconstruct old ones. The project hopes to illustrate how items that otherwise end up as garbage can benefit schoolchildren and those in need if reused properly. And to show just how far our trash can go, several beneficiaries stand to gain from the efforts of individuals and groups who chose to take that extra step.
