This might have been written for Richter: such power and brutality.

A legendary performance by Richter! But you also need to try and hear Shura Cherkassky's stunning version, recorded in 1982 for the Nimbus label. Wow!

Ah G major -- one of the best and most fun Keys :D.

A very good rendition however the great Richter seems to be pounding in this performance; Michael Ponti (who recorded all of Tschaikovsky's piano music) seems at ease in his playing; by the way and for the record Ponti recorded all of Rachmanioffs and Scriabins piano music (+ the piano concertos) so he is well-gifted in executions...

A performance of great beauty and touching emotion. Thanks a lot for posting.

I think this is quite an entertaining Piano Sonata but the piano writing is rather unpianistic in places. For me, Tchaikovsky wasn't a great composer for the piano; in fact, his grasp on sonata form is not that profound either. However, he had wonderful musical gifts and I am the first to acknowledge his ability.

non amo richter troppo veloce e tirato via , suono 'gracchiante' il fraseggio talmente convulso da essere, a volte praticamente illegibile... mah

Is fun because sometimes is like here an orchestra, but how sometime said Liszt about the piano music "The difference is that all the voices are dominated by just one performer, and that's why the piano is the most intense instrument.."
Incredible Piece!!!
Sounds more like a symphony for piano sometimes...
