Once again Dachis Group has teamed up with Dr. Scott McLeod of Iowa State University to create a thought-provoking video. The brand-new "Iowa, Did You Know?" kicked off the School Administrators of Iowa Conference on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. This DYK video contrasts the world's exponential growth in technology and learning with Iowa's struggles to best prepare K-12 students for this new future.

Intended as a forceful wake-up call for Iowa educators, the video stresses the importance of an educational approach that moves away from "low-level mental work" and towards stronger development in critical thinking and problem solving.

A facilitator's guide is available in the links below. Use it to help generate discussion at local service clubs, gatherings of parents at schools, town halls with local politicians, open conversations with school board members, meetings at senior citizen or community centers, book clubs, informal neighborhood discussion groups, etc...

Dachis Group (as XPLANE) previously worked with Dr. McLeod and Karl Fisch on the educational "Did You Know? 2.0" video in 2007. We collaborated again in 2009, this time including The Economist, on "Did You Know? 4.0" which focused on media convergence and technology. These videos have more than 7 million views on YouTube.

The "Iowa, Did You Know" content was developed by Dr. McLeod, with all storyboarding, design, and animation by XPLANE | Dachis Group.

  • A great provocative video, thanks! However there is a contradiction between the Creative Commons Attribution - Non Commercial - Share Alike license that appears at 7:01 for a few seconds within the video and the so-called YouTubesque Creative Commons Attribution license in its description.

  • @calmansi Thanks. Has been updated to just use the specific 7:01 CC license.

  • Hey TheUltraDude, STFU. Do you know what that means? Americans do.

  • Why put up 2 copies? They seem the same. Both good and thought provoking.

  • Wow.That was an impressive presentation!

  • The Bill of Rights does not contain a list of rights that are given to the American people by the government. Instead it provides a list of the rights that are inherently ours, and they can’t be taken away by the government. M Connelly 2011

No more progressives. We love liberty. Stand with Dr Paul and the Constitution of the USA

Lets put a man with the integrity of a great statesman in office...one who cannot be purchased or bullied...Ron Paul 2012!

  • @TheUltraDude I don't know how the scholastic system functions in the Caribbean but here in America it's physically impossible to graduate at age 15. To complete high school you must acquire credits by completing your courses, and the minimal credits required are normally 24. Which would either accumulate 3 years with 8 courses or 1 year with 24 courses which isn't allowed.

  • Yes, America. We get that you spend a lot of money (that you don't even have) but too bad you're so dumb. Third-world countries with NO school technology are blowing you away academically. I'm from the Caribbean and I could've graduated an American high school at 15. I'm at the bottom of my class here, but I'm a genius among Americans.
