Sometimes "just one teacher's opinion" is alot more than 'just an opinion', especially when it can be backed up by others.... Nova wants to hire a lot more teachers in Sept and Oct, without regard to their future.... don't be a victim...

I'm a teacher by trade, and I definitely agree with her when she said that she didn't feel like she was properly teaching under NOVA's guidelines. For quite a while when I first arrived in Japan, I felt really awkward while teaching because I'm used to my own pedagogical methods. I finally had to tell myself to relent, and wasn't happy doing that at all.

I would argue that it's not necesarily a racial difference in fundamental linguistic ability, but a socially different one. Students from Asian countries learn passively, meaning that a teacher constantly lectures to them, which means that there isn't much chance to practice speaking. I would imagine that this is part of the reason that most NOVA students have difficulty in their lessons. They LEARN differently than a Western student would.

I am half-Filipino and half-Caucasian, and felt self-conscious around my mostly Caucasian counterparts because I looked different than they did, and the students and staff noticed it too. I appreciate the girl in the video noticing this.

I worked for NOVAlue 8 years ago, and quit after three months because my wife was a student in my school. That's not why I quit exactly, it was because they told me I couldn't date a NOVAlue student! SHE IS MY WIFE FOR PITY'S SAKE!
Anyway, NOVAlue is GONE GONE GONE!! YAHOOOO!
If anyone wants internet lessons, message me and I'll hook you up!

I just read today that Nova is filing for bankruptcy and that most of its teachers are going to be retrenched. Many teachers are also owed salaries.

I know of a few cases of people intending to stay but got non-renewals, mysterious 'student complaints' that had not been mentioned before cited in the ones I have seen, impossible to survey all non-renewal letters or draw a conclusion as to warranted vs unwarranted. It's probably more realistic to say that most leave inside of 3 years because they are unsatisfied with the company.

most people come for the visa or only for a year, not because nova didnt renew their contract. do u know anyone who did nothing wrong, who wanted to have their contract renewed, but didnt get it?

There is no law that states they have to rehire. After 3 consecutive contracts it would become difficult to defend a non-renewal in court. One way or another, 97% of eikaiwa (including Nova teachers) teachers leave inside of 3 years...let's just say it's not a coincidence

i guess i was wrong to it was a known fact, i shouldve said it was a known 'thing'. the point i was tryin to make was that there is something that does 'compel' nova to renew it IF the instructors asks for a renewal. there must be some law because supposedly they have to rehire you unless they can prove you have physically damaged their property or committed a crime...

you're taking a general experience and applying to it the label of "fact", it's not a fact. yes, most teachers don't have a problem renewing their contract but the important point you are missing is that Nova can and *does* use the 1 year renewable contract to its advantage. Renewing the contract is entirely at the discretion of Nova and there is nothing that actually binds or compels Nova to renew it.
