Cookin' on every burner in the neighborhood. Blue-tinged Jazz at it's very best. This is what I used to hear on Friday and Saturday nights in clubs up and down the southside of Chicago. It still sounds so good.
The Other Part of Town with Horace Parlan (leader and piano), the incomparable Grant Green on guitar (with a sound as uniquely identifiable as Wes), the liquid lava sound of Booker Ervin (tenor), George Tucker holdin it down (bass), and Al Harewood (drums).
Check out the extraordinary, full-tone single notes by Grant; the diggin' into it compin' and then solo by Horace; the burnin' hot, yet plaintive, tenor work of "The" Booker." If you ain't movin' and groovin' to this - you got a hole in your soul. :-)
and it is, indeed, speakin' from "The Other Part of Town." Yall know what I be talkin bout.
Ah....the blues.Booker ervin my favourite!!!!

Thanks for this post. I've heard of Parlan, but never checked him out. I love getting turned on to a BN or Prestige track that cooks. Brilliantly miked by Van Gelder, too. I am going to order the CD right now.
