Golden jackals are fast and efficient hunters, but theyre also devoted parents, and new research reveals that they often have home help. A home helper is a puppy from a previous litter that sticks around to help raise this seasons pups. The helpers life is not an easy one. He ranks lowest in the family and gets a good deal of tough love. But golden jackal puppies have a much better chance of surviving if a helper is around.

jackals are one of my favorite animal but "darkhyena" is right, it appears they dont get enough credit that they are just as smart as foxes, and wolves if not smarter.

Golden jackals are such fascinating animals.
Its such a shame they are often slapped in the same category as other jackal species, which are in turn overshadowed by the fame of wolves and red foxes.
