On June 12, 2007 the steamer RESERVE chose to back out of Erie harbor from the Mountfort Terminal, rather than turn around in Presque Isle Bay and head out bow first. Listen in as the crew guides the vessel out on this voyage. When departed the RESERVE is bound for Toledo, Ohio to load a cargo of coal.

  • beloved Reserve :(

  • @flargmuffin92

yes and buckeye too. they could of cut up those not so nice looking ones instead or just converted the engine rooms of these ships to being more computerized to cut down the number of men needed instead of chopping up classic lakers into ugly barges.

  • @zequelll amen.....buckeye too :P

  • @LNERMallard

i just saw the pics. horrible looking job ripped out the ships soul and cut off the pilothouse and then renamed it without removing all the references to reserve :/ its a crime

  • rip ss reserve :(

  • @badgerattoadhall Thanks, there. It should be possible to make even massive ships look good 'n well proportioned. They just need to try harder... I'll go to that source you mentioned and take a look....

  • @SteffanLlwyd Yes that is basically the standard looking post 1970s built. They did build some smaller ships (to fit into some rivers of the lakes for unloading) but they all generally have the same-ish profiles. That what I mean, it losses the classic dual superstructure look. Google  boat nerd fleet photo it will be the top one all US and Canadian flagged ships on the lakes.

  • @badgerattoadhall

Man.... you are not kidding. That's one UGLY vessel you mentined there! It looks like the architect was trying to make it look awful.

If it is any compensation, without having a superstructure of any kind at the bows, Mesabi Miner is not a 'true Laker'. I looks like a massive blunt object with a super- structure kind of 'pumped-up on steroids'.

Do all post 1970 Lakers look that bad?! They should be restricted to night time passages, so nobody has to see them...

  • @SteffanLlwyd cut and paste ---> Mesabi Miner in the search box very post 1970s laker...ugg. did you watch that video i PM you?

  • @badgerattoadhall There are some pretty ugly ships around eh? The worst are those boxy car/ cattle carriers and ro-ro.s. Can you give me an example of an ugly post 1970 laker?

Oh yes, I nearly forgot to mention recent cruise liners. Compare any of them with QE2 and they look like giant, top-heavy boxes. I guess they have made cruising cheaper by stacking as many passenger decks as possible.
