My friend John goes toe to toe with Amanda Carpenter on the issue of John McCain's age and whether it will be an issue this election. John's right, the media constantly gives McCain a pass no matter how many times he shows that he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to Iraq or foreign policy.
I think they give him a pass because they need the election to appear as if it is a contest. Otherwise, the viewers would not tune in, and revenue would fall. News has to be entertaining.

Well it's not so much a pass because of his age but a pass because they like him. McCain is likable and from time to time admits his mistakes. Perhaps that's the grandpa effect who knows but it's not age per say. Another reason is the general media wouldn't know how to accurately report a story to save their lives. They follow one story, cover it till it's bled dry and move on to the next. Once the Obama/Clinton stories are tapped dry they'll start paying attention to gramps.
