lange habe ich gedacht, krieg sei immer zu vermeiden. halt typisches 68-er produkt. wenn ich aber daran denke, daß die deutschen voller überzeugeung als nationalisten in den kampf zogen (wohlgemerkt nicht als nazis) wie das eigentlich jede nation europas zu der zeit propagierte und wenn ich daran denke wie auch die füherschaft damals war so denke ich, daß auch ich damls diesem deutschen heer gerne angehört hätte ohne böses im gedanken zu haben.

All they did was to "formalize" an existing situation. For months the USA had been firing on German warships, and giving aid openly to Britain. See the Kearney and Ruben James incidents involving US destroyers and U-Boats, both predating Pearl Harbor. (USA 0-2 in those incidents).
