Smartway Advisors Presents: "Be prepared for the 'four square' technique"

One of the things you're going to do when you go to a dealership, they are going to want to know what's most important to you. Is it your monthly payment? Is it the cost of the car? Is it the amount they are going to pay you for your trade in? Is it your down payment?

Once they know what's most important to you, they can find a way to give that to you. But, keep in mind that, of the other things I just mentioned, there's other ways they can make that money back. So you want to be very careful if you say the most important thing to me is my monthly payment, that they're simply not making that up in terms of requiring more down payment from you, or giving you less for your trade in that your trade in is actually worth.

If you were to come in and say the most important thing to me is having a low down payment, then they'll find a way to make that up in terms of price of the car, in terms of giving you a little less for your trade in. They'll find a way to make that work for you to give what you want, but at the same time, maybe make it up in another area.

The best thing you can do is to accurately know what you can afford for a down payment and what makes sense in the marketplace that you're dealing in. How much is your trade in actually worth? Based on your credit, what type of loan term are you likely to get? What sort of monthly payment fits in your household budget? Knowing those things, you can make sure each of those align with your needs when you're closing the deal.

When you go to an auto dealer, they typically have more information than you do. What you want to try to do is even that playing field by doing as much research as you can before you go. Hop online and check out the many wonderful resources available, or call us and we'll be happy to arm you with information.
