What about S1 split? how normal is it to hear that? I was told that my heart sounded normal, but I didn't ask if she heard an S1 split, which I've read is pretty normal

Which focus can we hear it the best?
It can be difficult differentiating between S3 and opening span (of mitral valve in mitral stenosis). Both are best heard in the apex/mitral area. However, S3 is best heard using the bell of the stethoscope while an opening snap is best heard with the diaphragm. Also, S3 is low-pitched while an opening snap is high-pitched.
Hope that helps.
