Here I show you how to make a Trifillar Bedini or Tesla Coil Winding machine that counts the number of turns so you can accurately build a coil.

  • Nice helpful video thanks... I've also seen where you can hook the reed switch to a calculator keypad, at the back of number "1" key, so using cheap calculator to accumulate the count. They also have contact de bounce etc but need to enter first turn and hit ++to get it to accumulate count.

  • thanks, yeh i saw a video that used a calculator the other day. it would have been a lot simpler i think, but i really like my counter and it responds well to high frequency. I dont know how a calculator would go at counting at high speeds

  • good job-cool counter-thats very fast tho-it will be a hectic job feeding that spool-i tried a drill press on its lowest speed,it got the job done but it wasnt very neat.

  • yeh the drill is fast but it has low torque, so the idea is u can hold it back with one hand and slow it down to desired speed, works great. Although I've noticed Bedini twists his coils aswell, trying to come up with something that can do that as well.

It's time to make some coils now! my experimentation with radiant oscillator, Bedini & Tesla coil, im keen to play around with different coil configs and try to get some radiant energy

  • Would it be more cost/time efficient to just buy a pre-made coil winder?

I see them on ebay starting at about $70 USD, including shipping.

  • these comments are so big i dont even bother reading them :P (im too lazy)

  • when i say its high tech i mean i dont understand it! lol, i havent used photo-interupters before. its probably time to learn!

I find the response time is fine with the reed. I never run it as fast as u see in the video. in fact to wind a coil accurately its best to go quite slow. no point in re-inventing something that works fine.

I would be interested using photo-interupter for a different project. ive seen em at jaycar. I dont know wat kinda circuit they need tho.

  • the reed switches I use are very simple with no springs.

I have used reeds with Bedini motors before and it takes a long time to burn out.

I haven't had any problems with the coil winding machine.

Photo interupter is too high tech for this simple machine. I would consider using it in a Bedini motor though.

    cheers
